Our Alumnus of the Month series celebrates Knights who are making a difference through their careers, service, faith, leadership, and commitment to their communities. Whether their journey has taken them across the country or kept them close to home, each spotlight reflects the values and Luers Spirit that continue long after graduation.

Once a Knight. Always a Knight.

1. What path have you taken since graduating from Bishop Luers?
   • After graduating from Bishop Luers, I continued discerning my vocation to the priesthood through college and seminary. Along the way, I came to better understand God's mercy, patience, and love, which deepened my relationship with Him and strengthened my calling. I was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend and am now serving at St. Jude Parish in Fort Wayne. I especially look forward to celebrating the sacraments, spending time with students in the parish school, and walking with others in their faith journeys.
2. What lessons, skills, or values from your time at Luers have stayed with you the most?
   • One of the greatest gifts Bishop Luers gave me was experiencing what people mean when they say the "Luers family." Through the music department, show choir, and school community, I learned the importance of fraternity, generosity, and offering our talents to God. Those experiences helped shape the qualities I strive to live as a priest and continue to remind me of the lifelong impact of the Luers community.
3. Do you have a favorite teacher or standout memory from your time at Luers?
   • One memory that has always stayed with me happened in Mrs. Baum's religion class when a group of seminarians visited. After they left, she told the guys in class, "In ten years, that could be you up there wearing the white collar." Ten years later, I returned to Bishop Luers as a seminarian visiting classrooms myself and shared that very story with students. I also remain grateful to Scott Newman, Karlene Krouse, and Adam Hanke, whose passion for music helped me appreciate the beauty of worship and the importance of making our school Masses prayerful and meaningful.
4. Which clubs, teams, or activities were you involved in during high school?
   • I was heavily involved in the music program at Bishop Luers, including band, show choir, and musical productions. Those experiences taught me the beauty of music, teamwork, and using our gifts to glorify God, lessons that continue to influence my priesthood today.
5. When you hear "Luers Spirit," what does that mean to you personally?
   • To me, Luers Spirit is summed up in one of Father Bill Sullivan's favorite sayings: "Once a Knight, always a Knight." It means having a lifelong relationship with Bishop Luers, its mission, and the people who make it such a special place. Luers Spirit is about community, faith, generosity, and forming young men and women into Knights who carry those values wherever they go
