Juniors attended their Class Retreat last Friday. The theme was Faith and Desire. Throughout the day students reflected on Psalm 37:4 - “Find your delight in the LORD who will give you your heart’s desire.” The students engaged in teambuilding games, reflection activities, a panel discussion held by USF student retreat team leaders (all Bishop Luers alumni), Mass and adoration. One activity involved creating a collage, challenging students to consider what they desire /wish for most in life.

The Saint Cecilia Honor Band and Choir Program was a success! Thank you to everyone who made this day possible, including Bishop Dwenger High School for hosting the event, all the high school/middle school directors, and guest clinicians Susan Jehl, William Sauerland, and Susan Dorion (on piano). The evening ended with performances from the High School String Repertoire, High School Choir Repertoire, Middle School Band Repertoire, and High School Band Repertoire. Great job everyone!
Guest Clinician Susan Jehl is a retired band director with a distinguished career in the field of instrumental music education, primarily within the Southwest Allen County Schools. She has served as an Assistant Conductor for the Fort Wayne Area Community Band for over 40 years. She has received the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Outstanding Music Educator Award, and has been a guest conductor for two Indiana Bandmasters Honor Bands. In the past she has mentored both Mr. Cochran (Bishop Dwenger Band Director) and Mr. Hanke (Bishop Luers Band Director).
Guest Clinician William Sauerland is an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies for the School of Music at Purdue University - Fort Wayne. He conducts the university choral ensambles, teaches classes in conducting and music education, and supervises student teachers. A former member of the Grammy Award-winning vocal ensamble Chanticleer, Dr. Sauerland has sung throughout the world, and recorded multiple albums for Warner Classics.
Guest Pianist Susan Dorion currently teaches music classes at PFW and has her own private pianist studio.

Band and choir students from Bishop Luers, Bishop Dwenger, and their feeder schools are participating in the annual St. Cecilia Honor Program today, hosted by Bishop Dwenger High School this year. This event provides a great learning experience for students, who join together to form one middle school ensemble and one high school ensemble during the program. New this year is the addition of choir rehearsals and performances. Both the bands and choirs practice all day, both in large groups and in smaller breakout sessions.
Band Directors Adam Hanke (Bishop Luers) and Don Cochran (Bishop Dwenger), as well as Choir Directors Kris Andorfer (Bishop Luers) and Theresa Stachofsky (Bishop Dwenger) are directing the sectional breakout sessions. Two guest clinicians are directing the combined bands and choirs.
The students will perform in a free concert this evening at 6:30pm in the Bishop Dwenger gymnasium to showcase what they have learned!
