Celebrating Catholic Schools Week along with other Catholic schools around the nation, Bishop Luers High School participated in an All-School Mass today.

On Day 2 of Catholic Schools Week, students participated in a Sodalitas Day of Service. Students made 1000 ribbons for Vera Bradley to put up downtown (1/3 of the total that Vera Bradley puts up each year). They also made 300 sack lunches for the Rescue Mission, 150 cards for Veterans taking Honors Flights, and 80 tie blankets for cats for Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. Thank you to our students for making a difference!

Students, teachers and staff gathered together as a school community to celebrate the beginning of Catholic Schools Week with a prayer service this afternoon. Father Patrick Hake and student volunteers led us in prayer and song. There are many activities planned for the rest of the week to celebrate as well.

Assignments will be posted on Canvas by 9:45am. This does NOT affect the March for Life trip. Students who are registered for the March for Life should arrive at 5:45am at the gym doors.

Thank you to our feeder school basketball girls for showing up and cheering on the Lady Knights! It was a close game tonight, with Carroll taking home the win (57-63).

Bishop Luers has 9 students displaying artwork in the University of Saint Francis 50th High School Art Exhibition. The students are: Luisa Koenig, Victoria Koenig, Kayla Smith, Lucas Craver, Gertie Anderson, Christian Rogers, Lyla Kelty, Ethan Wood, and Lucila Godinez Towns. The artwork will be on display at the Weatherhead Gallery in the Rolland Art Center from January 16th through February 26th.
In class, the students learned about Alibrijes, which are Mexican folk art statues originated by the artist Pedro Linares. Each student was tasked with creating a mythical animal using paper mache, and they painted the outside with detailed patterns.

Tomorrow is bowling team sectionals at Thunderbowl. Good luck to our bowlers! On Wednesday, the team had a surprise visit by EJ Tackett, 2016, 2023, and 2024 Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) bowler of the year. EJ provided a mini training session. He stressed the importance of balance and gave tips on a good release.

Students in Mrs. Arford's Earth and Space Science class are learning about relief maps that show differences in elevation in an area. Each student created a relief map on graph paper and have converted the map into a quilt block. Next they will be creating 3D models from their 2D maps.

During the second half of his Pastoral Visit today, Bishop Rhoades had lunch with students representing various clubs and sports at Bishop Luers. He then visited Theology classrooms and answered questions. Mr. Lushis' theology students had written predictions on the whiteboard for the winner and final score of the upcoming Notre Dame vs Ohio State game. Bishop Rhoades added his prediction as well.

Today Bishop Luers High School welcomes Most Reverand Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades for his annual Pastoral Visit! So far today, he has celebrated Mass for the entire school. Father Mark Hellinger ('14) served as the Master of Ceremonies.
During Mass, 8 students and 1 teacher received the Sacrament of Confirmation, 2 were baptized, and 2 received their First Holy Communion.
