For the opening night of Orphan Train, we had some VERY special guests! Orphan Train book author L. E. McCullough and Orphan Train Music Director Doug Katsaros travelled from out of state to attend the performance!
McCullough is a prize-winning journalist and author who has written 52 books of fiction, non-fiction, and plays, including 177 published stage and script works.
Katsaros has a lengthy theatre résumé that includes writing the opening theme and special material for the Tony Awards.
We also heard from Susan Ensley, a descendent of an orphan from the orphan train. She talked about her great-grandfather, who came west on the Orphan Train. She told us his life story before the performance began.
What a great evening! There is still a chance to see the show tomorrow night! (Sunday, October 5, at 7:30pm).

Bishop Luers welcomed Gabriel Castillo to speak today about the importance of praying the Rosary daily and asking Our Lady for her intercession in our life. Mr. Castillo is a Catholic videographer and lay evangelist. He has produced multiple documentaries and is the Director of Youth Ministry at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Texas. Thank you Mr. Castillo for your words of wisdom today!

Bishop Luers High School is deeply saddened by the passing of David Perrey, a proud supporter and a beloved former ‘Field Dad.’ Grandfather to Luers alum Ronnie and Channing Williams and Sophomore center Jayden Bryant. David gave generously of his time and energy to our students and community, and he will be greatly missed.

You won't want to miss the musical, this is history in the making!! Not only are L. E. McCullough (author of the Orphan Train book) and Doug Katsaros (Music Director of Orphan Train - the Musical) coming in from out of state to see the performance on Saturday night, Susan Ensley, a descendent of one of the orphans who actually travelled on the orphan train will be in attendance!
Bishop Luers is one of the first high schools to perform Orphan Train in the United States, and the first high school in Indiana to perform it!

Today Bishop Luers had an All-School Mass, and on Monday and Tuesday, the freshmen went on retreat! Their retreat theme: Created and Claimed. Students had the opportunity to hear testimonies from missionaries, attend Mass, participate in small group discussion, and recreation time. Thank you to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Vincent de Paul parishes for providing a space for us!

Bishop Luers staff attended a retreat today at the University of Saint Francis! They had the opportunity for Confession, Adoration, and Mass. Fr. Theodore gave a talk, and each participant picked a saint to intercede for them through the rest of the year.

This past summer, Mrs. Carroll and Mr. Ebbeskotte travelled to the University of Notre Dame to attend the week-long Teaching Life and Human Dignity Symposium. There they participated in lectures with experts in the field along with other Catholic educators, learning about the Church's teaching on human dignity and how to integrate it into the daily Catholic school curriculum.
