Bishop Luers Freshman Zach Calderon has been named to the 2021 All-SAC Boys Tennis First Team at the conclusion of one of the strongest seasons in recent years for the Knights' tennis program. The recognition highlight’s Zach’s position as one of the top area high school tennis players. Zach's reaction? "I was surprised, I didn't think I'd make it!"
Zach's love of tennis began at an early age, as he joined his tennis-loving mom on the court to hit the ball around, "I've been playing since I was 5. My mom played in high school and continues to play. I had fun playing with her, and I loved playing tennis! I played competitively at St. Elizabeth School and was excited to move up to the high school level at Bishop Luers."
To prepare for his transition to high school level competition, Zach first focused on the mental aspects of anticipating stronger opponents and more challenging competition. His ultimate goal- to be the top boy’s tennis player. A drive to succeed, first cultivated mentally, translated to frequent practice sessions throughout the spring and summer in advance of the fall boy’s tennis season. Zach also plays basketball to keep his athleticism up. But he credits more than his own personal effort- Zach also credits his team for his success: "The Seniors welcomed the Freshman right away, making us a very together team. We are definitely united."
Congratulations to Zach, and the entire boy’s tennis team, for a great
season! Go Knights!
