Congratulations to Chris Brough, our 2022 Distinguished Knight Award recipient is a proud graduate of the Bishop Luers Class of 1990.
During his 4 years at Bishop Luers, Chris was a force on the football team and part of the 1989 state football championship team! In the off season, he was a male cheerleader during the basketball season, participated in all the musicals he could, and played soccer.
Chris and his wife, Deb, a teacher here at Luers, raised their 2 children here in the Fort Wayne community. Their children also graduated from Luers! Kennedy, class of 2017 and Grant, class of 2020, where they too have followed in their dad’s footsteps in their giving back to the Luers community by coaching the girls soccer team and assisting with the football team respectively.
Bishop Luers is grateful for Chris’s volunteerism. He is continually lending his expertise when it comes to our football field and stadium maintenance and care. From water leaks and drainage issues to creating the stencil used to bring our grand Knight to life in the middle of our field. He is a cornerstone of our field dads team where he still continues to volunteer. He chaired this group for 4 years and has been here every Tuesday during football season to lend his field care skills for over 10 years.
In addition to his time here at the stadium, Chris has helped on the fundraising side of the Bishop Luers Smoker, helped with the Coach Mike Egts foundation, has announced freshmen and reserve football games, managed gates, filmed both football and soccer games, and has helped organize and run our feeder school football programs. Finally, you can always hear Chris belting out our fight song loud and proud!
In the Spirit of Bishop Luers we are grateful for Chris Brough and his family for contributing to the growth and success of Bishop Luers High School. God Bless your service to God and the Bishop Luers community Chris!!!
We are so grateful for the many people who give of their time and treasure to support Luers and there are many who are worthy to be recognized as a Distinguished Knight. This year the light of the Luers Spirit has shined on John Barnett. He has given countless amounts of time, talent, and treasures to our school and we are delighted that he has been chosen as this year’s Honorary Alumnus Distinguished Knight!
John, and his wife Eugenia, have been part of this Luers community for many years. His oldest, Lawrence is 2009 graduate of Luers and his youngest Catherine is a 2012 graduate. Since joining the Luers family, he has faithfully served this Luers community, which he so loves. He has been a loyal contributor to Football Field Dad for many years, where he still helps to this day even though his kids have long graduated. For many years, he served on the Bishop Luers School Board and on the school’s finance committee for the School Board.
Currently, he is an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church; serving as the Bell’s Program Administrator and Soup Kitchen Assistant Director, where he is also plays an integral role for the Bells of St. Mary’s Scholarship program, which awards thousands of dollars every year to Bishop Luers High School students in need.
John truly embodies the Luers Spirit. The mission statement speaks to the values that are held so dearly at this school – dignity, integrity, respect and responsibility. He is devoted to his faith, his family, and to Luers.
We are so proud to announce that John Barnett, is this year’s Honorary Alumnus Distinguished Knight!!
