Bippity Boppity Boo

The Bishop Luers Theater Department's production of The Sound of Music was a sterling tribute to the well-known musical based on the bestselling novel The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, written by Baroness Maria Von Trapp.

Seniors Ashley DiGiulio and Chase Lomont amazed with impressive voices and excellent portrayals of Maria Rainer, who became Maria Von Trapp, and Captain Von Trapp, respectively. The Mother Abbess, depicted by junior Gretchen Spenn, counselled the religious sisters with a patient demeanor and her beautiful voice. Senior Emma Ward, a member of the band, said that "Gretchen's voice was so beautiful that every time I heard it I wanted to burst into tears."

"The Sound of Music has been my favorite since I was a little girl. Having it be the last production of my high school career meant a lot to me and the amazing cast made it even better," senior Macy Glenn shared. Glenn and senior Alex Martinez added humor and a touch of witticism in their roles of Baroness Schroeder and Max Dettweiler.

The Von Trapp children, who featured Julia Andorfer as Liesl, Emily Schmidt as Louisa, Matthew Zollinger as Friedrich, Adelle Herber as Brigitta, Gavin DeLaGrange as Kurt, Leah Hess as Marta, and Alice Serrani as Gretl, were mischievous, funny, and spunky on cue. In addition to illustrating the family that the plot revolved around, the actors and actresses demonstrated impressive vocal skills while performing classics such as "Do-Re-Mi" and "The Lonely Goatherd."

The wonderful musical score and versatile cast captured the audience's attention as they retold a timeless story of music, courage, love, and faith in one another. From the intensity of the Von Trapp family's escape, to Liesl's frustration with Franz, to Maria's difficult decision, to the Mother Abbess' delightful rendition of "My Favorite Things" the viewers experienced the characters' adventures vicariously and thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the process. This play was a "drop of golden sun:" and everyone involved: the directors, actors and actresses, stage crew, tech crew, band, and costume department ought to be commended.
