A note from Principal Huth

Oct. 1, 2018

Dear faculty, staff, parents and supporters of Bishop Luers:

I wanted to send out a quick note on my recovery. As most of you know, on Sept. 14, I had an aortic heart valve replacement surgery. The valve was a known condition, but we thought it would last for a few more years. The surgery was a success, and I am now in the recovery period following the open-heart procedure.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your thoughts, cards, notes and prayers. I am truly blessed to work at a school where the power of God's presence in our lives is not ignored. I tell you without hesitation that once the prayers started, every test that was preformed came back with great results -- no arterial blockages or heart damage -- just a valve replacement.

My recovery is moving along very well. I am gaining strength and mobility every day. I went to Mass yesterday to celebrate the Eucharist and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. It was good to be back in my Church community at St Mary's. I also got to talk with four of our students who also attended Mass -- good for my heart.

I go back to my cardiologist on Oct. 24 and fully expect to begin a transition to return to school. In the meantime, my leadership team is doing great things, and we are communicating on a regular basis. Again, we are blessed to have great leadership and experience in our key positions, administration, teaching, business, custodial, cafeteria and front office. Things continue to get done. We still have much to work on this school year as a teaching staff. We have great professional development, and we are working with English language learners and developing better assessments. I can't wait to get back and get going.

I have been following the fall sports teams, and as we enter the tournament season, we could have some very deep runs. Congratulations to Madeleine Pape on her state runner-up in girls' golf. It was well earned.

Please keep the prayers coming and thank you for you continued support for Bishop Luers.

It's good to be a Knight!
