2007 Season Highlights
Coach's Comments:
The Bishop Luers Golf Team won the 1st SAC championship
in BLHS girls golf in 14 years!! Our SAC record was an
undefeated
6-0, and our overall record was
11-1 !
We were 2nd in the 18 hole SAC tournament, and in
Sectional, too. We also qualified for Regional as
a team! At Noble Hawk, we finished 5th place, only 2
places from qualifying for state. Three of our girls
shot a career best round--
(Haylee Eckert 88, Erin Springer 105 and Morgan Tobias
110.) We believe our 357 total is the lowest BLHS
total ever in an IHSAA event!
Kristi O'Brien was low for Luers with a 76, and
qualified for the State Finals for the 2nd year in a
row. She then shot 76 again to make the 1st days cut, to
reach the final day. She shot 81 on day two to finish at
157, good for 21st place overall. Overall, she
won 4 out of the nine 18 hole tournaments we played in,
including the SAC Tournament shooting 76, and the
Sectional Championship firing a 1-over par 74. Kristi
was then named to the IHSAA Indiana ALL-STATE Team
at seasons' end. She was the highest point getter from
N.E. Indiana on the 16 girl team. Kristis' 18 hole
average of 74.8 and 9 hole average of 37 broke her own
BLHS records, as did her best score of 68. She finished
her High School career with 11 Tournament Victories
including 2 SAC wins, 2 Sectional wins and 1 Regional
victory.
Our Luers team also placed 3 girls on the All-SAC
team. Joining Kristi was Heather Hendrickson (3rd
time), and much improved Haylee Eckert. Haylee made
Honorable Mention the past 2 years. Heather had a 4th
place finish at the Bellmont with 78, and 3rd at
Sectional shooting 89. Haylee also fired a 39 this year.
Our lone Junior Chelsea Pritchard also showed great
improvement during the year. Her score was the key to
our HUGE 2-stroke victory in the Northrop match, our
biggest obstacle to win the SAC. Sophomore Kyren O'Shaughnessey,
the top player on JV who moved up to Varsity, and
Chelsea are expected to lead a young and improving Lady
Knight team next year. The other coaches and I can't
wait!!!
