Walk-A-Thon was a success

Our 37th Walk-A-Thon on Oct. 6 was a success this year, despite the morning rain. It was amazing to see the Luers Spirit in and around the school all day.

See the photo album here.

Thanks to all our wonderful parent volunteers who helped with the water station, snack station and with setting up, serving and cleaning up the hot dog lunch. Thanks to all our sponsors that sponsored the Walk-A-Thon this year. Thanks to the bakers of the homemade cookies, the donors of candy, two-liter pop bottles, hot dogs, buns, apples, chips, napkins, ketchup, relish and mustard. The students and staff truly appreciate all your generosity, time and talents! We could not do an event this large without all the help we receive from our Luers families.

Big thanks goes to Lee’s Famous Recipe for donating drinking cups we used at the water station and lunch. Another big thank you goes to Aunt Millie’s Bakeries for our hot dog buns.

Many businesses donated items for our prize winners this year, Sky Zone, Lazer X, Pizza Hut, Putt-Putt Golf and Games, Red Mango, Fast Track Racing, Dairy Queen, Firehouse Subs, Fazoli’s, Panda Express, Tim Horton’s, ZoYo and Starbucks.

The goal this year is to raise $59,000. As of Tuesday, Oct. 6, $29,000 of that goal has been met. About 340 students have not fulfilled their $100 commitment for the Walk-A-Thon. Please encourage your student to hurry up and get that $100 commitment into Bishop Luers. If your student needs help with reaching the $100 commitment, we have a list of names in the Office of Mission Advancement, Room 142, that your student may call to solicit donations. Please continue to turn in your Walk-A-Thon money either in the front office or to Room 142.

Students receiving special prizes for the Walk-A-Thon are the following:

  • Most pledges Kera Parrott with 12

Prizes were given to the top five winners

  • 5th   Grace Allen
  • 4th     Avery Arnold
  • 3rd   Faith Vandermeir
  • 2nd   Jessica LaMaster
  • 1st   Nate Prendergast

Jeans Day goes to the freshmen class with 48 percent of the students who turned in their $100 commitment

Thanks again to all that helped make Walk-A-Thon a successful Bishop Luers tradition!

Christine Fabina
