WORLD CIVILIZATIONcourse is designed for students enrolled in English 9        

This course is designed to give the student an overview of the growth of modern western civilization from early Greece and Rome. It covers the major countries of Western Europe and their unique contribution toward the evolution of our present day world from a western perspective.

WORLD HISTORY                    

World History acquaints students with the past and present world problems.  The student discovers who our companions on the earth are and receives an understanding of man’s designs for the future.  Particular attention is paid to the relationships among the United States, other continents, nations and world.  The course aims to increase the student’s social studies skills and his/her awareness of the world and its potential.

HONORS WORLD HISTORY     

The course of study for Honors World History is the development of civilization from pre-history to the 20th century.  The course is designed to increase the students’ understanding of the development of civilization and how that development relates to the creation and growth of the United States.

WORLD GEOGRAPHY                

World Geography provides an opportunity to study the interaction of humans and their environment in space and time.  This course helps students understand global patterns of physical and cultural characteristics.

ACADEMIC UNITED STATES HISTORY

American History is the study of the development of this country from when the Colonization period to the present.  Special attention is given to the Constitution, the Civil War, Reconstruction the events of the 1900s, especially the Great Depression, World War I, World War II, and the Civil Rights Movement..

HONORS UNITED STATES HISTORY

Honors American History deals with the basic materials as presented in the American History course but in more depth and with greater intensity.  It is the study of the development of the country from the Colonization period to the present.  Special attention is given to the development of the Constitution, the formation of democracy and the molding of the American character.

AP UNITED STATES HISTORY

United States History, Advanced Placement is a course that provides students with the content established by the College Board. The course has a chronological frame from 1492 to the present.  There is a possibility of students earning college credit upon successful completion of the AP United States History Exam.

APPLIED ECONOMICS             

Students will have an opportunity to learn basic economic principles and their practical application to their daily lives.  Economic current events will be a large part of the discussions.

ECONOMICS- HONORS            

This class will concentrate on the fundamentals of economic theory.  Emphasis will be placed on macro and microeconomics.  Critical thinking is a key to success in this class.  Students will evaluate economic information as they are guided toward economic reasoning and its applications.  Reading is essential to mastering the material; the textbook is somewhat advanced.

GOVERNMENT                                          

This course is designed to acquaint citizens with local, state and federal governmental functions and structure through analysis of current programs and problems of government.  Students learn how government affects the individual and how the individual can affect government.

HONORS GOVERNMENT         

The course will acquaint students with local, state and federal government functions.  Special emphasis will be put on current events and participation in the local political process.  Writing skills will be needed for success.

Students should enter the class with some knowledge of the Constitution.

HONORS MODERN UNITED STATES HISTORY               

Open to all senior students who have completed the Honors American History course.  A completion of the survey of American History from 1950 - the present will be covered.

PSYCHOLOGY- HONORS                              

Psychology is the science that deals with the behavior and thinking of organisms.  This course is an introduction to the various theories, tests and research methods of psychology.  Topics such as personality, states of consciousness, learning, memory, and mental illness are explored.

SOCIOLOGY                               

Sociology is the study of human society and social behavior.  This course deals with human interaction - how people relate to one another and influence each other’s behavior.  Students will learn about and research topics such as class structure, groups, minorities, values, norms, crime, and poverty.
