POLICY FOR ASSIGNMENT TO A HIGHER LEVEL COURSE FOR INCOMING STUDENTS

A student who has the equivalent of one full year of a foreign language or a student who has skill in spoken French or Spanish must have the recommendation of a member of the foreign language faculty to be placed in a higher level course.

Students who experience success in a foreign language are also good students in English.  They understand grammar very well and have excellent memory skills that are used for building vocabulary.  Foreign language is not a required course for freshmen.  Many students enjoy greater success in a foreign language if they wait until grade 10 or 11 to begin their study.
