– 2008 SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are awarded to students who are pursuing an
animal-related career and are based on the applicant’s character, commitment to
the stewardship of animals, financial need, and scholastic achievement and
promise. Applications must be submitted on or before February 1, 2007.
AMERICAN LEGION
AUXILLIARY
Applicant must be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary
or the Sons of The American Legion and must be currently in the senior year of
high school. Applicant must have a high
average of scholarship and deportment for his or her entire high school course
of instruction. It is important to
follow all of the applicant’s responsibilities listed in the rules. Deadline
is April 1, 2008.
BURGER KING
Applicants must be high school seniors who: Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher;
Work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year; are actively
involved in community service activities; demonstrate financial need; and plan
to enroll in an accredited two/or four year college, university, or
vocational/technical school by Fall of the application year. Applications

DAUGHTERS OF THE
AMERICAN REVOLUTION
There are several scholarships awarded from this
organization, such Political Science, Nursing, Medical and other specific
scholarships. Check out the file in room
144. Complete information for submitting
applications is found on the respective fact sheets. For each application, the student must
contact the Regent for a sponsoring letter from the Mary Penrose Wayne chapter
of the DAR. Deadlines vary.
GERTRUDE B.
ECKRICH
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP – Selection
Criteria: Catholic high school seniors,
with financial need, planning on attending a two or four-year Catholic
institution. Students need not be a
member of the Roman Catholic faith to apply.
Half of the scholarships will go to students who will attend the
FIRESIDE ESSAY
Seniors who apply must fill out the Student Application and
write an essay. The essay question is
“How is your religious education influencing your life?” Applicants
must return the application and essay to the Guidance Department no later than
November 5, 2007.
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP – Eligibility: You must be a child or stepchild of active or
retired pensioned employees, or of widows or widowers of same, who at the time
of death were paid active or retired pensioned employees of the Fort Wayne Fire
Department. Financial need is not a
determining criterion. Deadline:
Due to the Guidance Department on or before Monday, March 10, 2008.
ED AND VI FOSTER
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP – Eligibility: Graduating seniors, with financial need, who
are planning on majoring, full time, in engineering or related fields at
GRABILL BANK
Eligibility: For Grabill Bank employees who have been employed for two years
or more and work full time or a minimum of 20 hours per week, or their children
(natural or adopted) pursuing a college degree either
full or part time. You must also have a
GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4 scale and demonstrated
commitment to community and school through community service, leadership,
respect, and concern for others. Application must be returned to Guidance no
later than January 24, 2008.
GREATER
Applicants must be female, have participated in the Greater
Indiana Regional League of Soccer, been accepted into an accredited college or
university. Emphasis is placed upon
personal essay (500 words), impact of youth soccer on your life and creativity
and originality. Deadline is May 31, 2008.
HELEN V. GROOT
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP – Eligibility: Allen County,
GRACE HOGAN
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP – Eligibility: Selection is based on financial need for students pursuing a degree at a four or two-year accredited institution. Criteria: financial need and scholastic achievement.

Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship is awarded to a student who resides

LUTHERAN HEALTH
PROFESSIONALS
The scholarship program is open to students who plan to
pursue a career in a health care
profession. Applicants must have
applied and been accepted to their chosen school. Scholarships will be awarded based on
financial need, academic performance or a combination of both. Applications are available on the website at www.thelutheranfoundation.org.
The deadline for application is March 15.
McKELVEY FOUNDATION
Scholarship Criteria:
Attend a four-year college or university within the 50 U.S.; Own and
operate a business for at least 1 year; have at least one paid employee; have sales
revenue (unless non-profit); submit a completed online application; agree to
participate in a telephone interview if selected as a finalist; and if a
winner, attend the summer e-Venture program in St. Louis, MO. Applications
must be completed on line at www.mckelveyfoundation.org
by January 15, 2008.
PHYSICIANS HEALTH PLAN
Applicants
must be planning to pursue a career in a health-related field. Judging will be 50% qualities of the essay,
including, but not limited to: content,
grammar, punctuation, spelling and creativity and 50% length of commitment,
quality of teamwork and leadership responsibilities in the community, and
school activities, awards, and honors. All
entries must be submitted and postmarked no later than February 28, 2008.
Applicants

This is a renewable scholarship to students demonstrating financial need. Students who plan to enroll in qualified postsecondary-education programs as full-time or half-time undergraduate. Up to 50 % of the scholarships will be targeted to students who, in addition to demonstrating financial need, are members of an ethnic-minority group or are physically disabled. Applications will be accepted online at www.usafunds.org/scholarship between December 15 2007 and February 15, 2008.
WAL-MART – SAM
WALTON COMMUNTITY
Applicant can not be a Wal-Mart Store Associate or the dependent of a Wal-Mart Store Associate as of April 25, 2008. Applicant must have a G.P.A. of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale, and have taken either the ACT or SAT tests. Applicant may apply once for the Community Scholarship using the store number from their nearest Sam’s Club or Wal-Mart store, but not both. Multiple applications will result in disqualification.

postmark of January 14, 2008 of all required documents. No exceptions are made for late entries.
Criteria: Student
must have been a resident of Whitley
County for 12 months prior to the date of application, plan to pursue a
full-time baccalaureate course of study at an accredited college or university
in Indiana, demonstrate financial need, and demonstrate pride in the community,
responsibility, perseverance, self-esteem, and the desire to contribute to
Whitley County through work or volunteerism.
