2009 – 2010 SCHOLARSHIPS

 

(The) American Legion – Offers The American Legion High School Oratorical Contest , which is a speech contest focusing on the Constitution of the United States. At the state level, students earn at least $1,800 or up to $4,200. At the national level $19,500 in scholarship money may be won by the National High School Oratorical Champion.. AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Winners of this scholarship are known as AXA Achievers. They are students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have respect for self, family and community. Fifty-two scholarships are awarded, one from each state for an AXA Achievement Scholarship or $10,000 or $25,000. The application deadline is December 15, 2009. BURGER KING

This scholarship is designed to award senior students who: Work part time an average of 10 hours per week or 40 weeks per year (you do not have to be a burger king employee); Maintain a 2.5 (8.0 on 12pt scale) or higher G.P.A.; Are actively involved in community service activities; Demonstrate financial need; and plan to enroll in an accredited two/four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by this fall. GERTRUDE B. ECKRICH
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP – Selection Criteria: Catholic high school seniors, with financial need, planning on attending a two or four-year Catholic institution. Students need not be a member of the Roman Catholic faith to apply. Half of the scholarships will go to students who will attend the University of Saint Francis. Deadline: Due to the Guidance Department on or before February 25, 2010.

FORT WAYNE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC.
You must be a descendant of a graduate (either living or deceased) of Central High School. A completed application and an essay describing your educational and personal goals must be returned to Central High School Alumni Scholarship Committee, before April 24, 2009.

FORT WAYNE COUNTRY CLUB CADDIE SCHOLARSHIP

FORT WAYNE HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Applicants must be “Hispanic”, “Latina/o” or of Hispanic and/or Latina/o origin (as explained in #3 of the application requirements. Applicants also must have a 2.5/4.0 GPA or higher, provide SAT or ACT scores, provide proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university, submit a letter of recommendation and have low to moderate household income. Deadline: The completed application and documentation must be RECEIVED no later than Thursday, April 30, 2009.

ED AND VI FOSTER LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility: Graduating seniors, with financial need, who are planning on majoring, full time, in engineering or related fields at Purdue University, West Lafayette. To apply: Common Application and Coversheet due: Due to the Guidance Department on or before Thursday, February 25, 2010.

GRABILL BANK EMPLOYEE SCHOLARSHIP
Grabill Bank Employees who have been employed for 2 years or more and currently work full time, or a minimum of 20 hours per week, or their children (natural or adopted), pursuing a college degree either full or part time. GRACE HOGAN LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Selection is based on financial need for students pursuing a degree at a four or two-year accredited institution. Criteria: financial need and scholastic achievement. Deadline: Due to the Guidance Department on or before Wednesday, February 25, 2009. (the true deadline is April 9, 2010).

KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARS

For high school seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify: high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 (8.25); Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence’ Plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree; be a U.S citizen or permanent resident; demonstrate financial need. JIM KELLEY MEMORIAL – Greater Fort Wayne Aviation Museum
Eligibility requirements are as follows: Senior Students must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be accepted at an accredited institution of post-secondary education, whether it is a technical school or four-year college or university. They must also demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in a field related to aviation. Applications must be submitted/postmarked by December 31, 2009.

INDIANA ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION, AND DANCE
These scholarships are awarded to students who plan to attend an Indiana college or university to pursue an education which leads to a degree in one of IAHPERD’s disciplines: health education, physical education, recreation, dance education or sport administration. Criteria for Selection: participation in school activities, community activities, a GPA of at least 3.0, and financial need. All applications must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2010.

INDIANA DAR (DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICN REVOLUTION) - Awards a $500 scholarship through the Indiana DAR Scholarship Committee. Applicants must:
Be a United States Citizens; Attend/plan to attend an Indiana institution of higher learning; obtain a letter of sponsorship from their local DAR chapter. For further information, stop by Guidance Room 144. All applications must be received by the deadline: March 1, 2010 (postmarked by March 1, 2010).

PHP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Offers high school seniors planning to pursue a career in a health-related field are eligible. The application form can be downloaded from their web site at www.phpni.com PHP will award a one time $3,000 to the first place winner; a $2,000 one-time scholarship to the second place winner; a $1,000 one-time scholarship to the third place winner. Applicants must have applied to a post-secondary college, university or technical school. They must currently be either a PHP member or attending a high school within PHP’s 40 county service area. All entries must be submitted to the attention of the Scholarship Program at PHP and postmarked by February 26, 2010, to be eligible.

Ayn Rand Education Essay Contest

 (available to all 11th and 12th graders) The Fountainhead Essay Contest - Offers: First prize is $10,000, 5 second prizes of 2,000, 10 third prizes of $1,000, 45 finalists prizes of $100 and 174 semifinalists prizes of $50. In addition to the being an 11th or 12th grade student, you must read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Then select one of three topics listed in the brochure as the topic for your essay. The essay must be between 800 and 1600 words in length. Entry deadline is April 26, 2010

Oratorical Contests will be held: girls February 16, 2010 and boys February 23, 2010
