SENIOR INFORMATION
If you are working toward a core 40 or standard diploma you need a minimum of 49 credits. AHD needs 52 credits. To get Core 40 you need a GPA of 6.0 or higher. Academic Honors Diploma Candidates need a 9.0 GPA or higher. Please check now to see that all the courses listed on the checklist are classes you are scheduled to take this year. Summer School Classes. If your grade isn’t on the credit evaluation, please request in writing a review of your records.
When should you apply? Gather information and narrow your choices to 3-5 colleges. Most Colleges require a non-refundable application fee varying between 25-$60. Check with you college to see what College Admissions Test they accept. Indiana Colleges accept either the SAT or ACT. Some colleges like Ivy Tech, IBC and Vincennes College do not require you to take a College Board exam. They give placement tests. Visit the campus of your choice. You have two days during your senior year to pre-arrange a college visit. If the college is located in Ft. Wayne, you are allowed ˝ day. How do you apply? Two Ways To File
What do Colleges Look for in admitting students? 1. Difficulty of the Coursework 2. Trends in the Transcript – Look for improvement 3. GPA Some School look only at core courses and figure GPA 4. Test Scores 5. Percentile Ranking 6. Essays 7. Letters of Recommendation Requesting A Transcript · Complete the Transcript Release Form and return it to room 146. This is kept on file and used for the entire year. · When you bring your applications to the guidance office, I will give you a copy showing that I received the request to release your records. If you are applying online, be sure to include the counselor page when requesting a transcript. · If you are submitting a paper copy, complete your portion of the application and sign it. Include the admissions fee check and all other required materials. I will look it over, fill in the counselor page, prepare the transcript and mail it. Once it is mailed you will receive the yellow copy showing the date the copy was mailed. Please allow 10 days for processing. · The first transcript is free. Each one thereafter is $5.00. When you receive notice that the transcript was mailed you should pay the fee in the business office. Failure to do so will result in your report card being held. The Best time to bring in applications is before school or after school. NCAA – Student Athletes who wish to participate in a Division I or II School must applying with the NCAA Clearinghouse. (www.ncaaclearinghouse.net) · You must complete amateurism Certification Questionnaire · SAT OR ACT Score must be sent directly to NCAA when taking the SAT or ACT you request test result be sent to NCAA just like you do for a college. The NCAA code is 9999. · If you have taken the test but failed to have your results sent you would have to call and request the records be mailed to the clearinghouse. · You complete the application online. Pay the registration and be sure to print a copy, which includes 2 forms for the guidance office, requesting transcripts. · The guidance dept is not responsible for determining your eligibility. The clearinghouse determines eligibility. We will guide you if you ask!
