Luers Future
Guidance Department
The guidance and counseling program at Bishop Luers High School is designed to meet the developmental needs of the student body, as well as to respond to each individual student's special needs and interests. The goals of our program are concentrated into three developmental areas:
Learning to Learn - Achieving Educational Success
Students Orientation and Parent Education
Test and Record Interpretation
Classroom Guidance Activities
Goal-Setting and Tracking
Curriculum Advising and Scheduling based on Stated Goals
Referrals for Special Needs Placement
Learning to Work - Career Exploration and Planning
College Planning
Career Education
Job Placement
Parent Information Nights
Learning to Live - Personal and Social Development
Individual and Group Counseling
Crisis Intervention
Support for Students and their Families
Referrals to Professional Services
These guidance goals are implemented through consultations with teachers, parents, administrators, support staff and outside agencies. Students have the same guidance counselor for all four years of their high school career. Counselors guide students in their decision-making processes concerning personal, academic and career goals. We provide the tools for individual success.

- College Applications
Applying to college is foremost in seniors' minds. Most will apply directly online to their chosen school(s)or by using The Common Application. Regardless of how a student applies, a high school transcript must be requested and sent through the guidance office. Be sure to check each application to see if a Counselor Form is also required. This form should be printed and dropped off to guidance when the transcript is requested. Please allow 5-10 working days to process an application. Transcript Release Form

- Scholarships for Post-Secondary Schools
After admission, how to pay for a college education is of utmost importance. Many colleges offer automatic consideration for scholarships, and will notify prospective students what awards, if any, they qualify for as part of their acceptance package. Students should check for specific financial aid information on the website of each college to which they apply. In addition, there are scholarship search engines available on the web - one of the most well-known is fastweb.com. When Guidance is notified of local or national scholarships for which our students qualify, this information is published in several ways: scholarships are posted in junior/senior religion and English classrooms, and in Guidance; information, help, and application forms, check in Room 144.
