Welcome Alumni

As we enter our 6th year in the Development Office, we are continuing to work towards our goal of getting to better know our alumni. By helping to organize and attend your class reunions, providing alumni special events, and communicating with you through our newsletter, Knight News, we are renewing and building alumni relationships. Our hope is to promote further involvement with you, graduates from Bishop Luers High School.

Each fall our Alumni Committee hosts the Annual Golf Outing and Homecoming. These two events make it possible for us to financially assist many of our alumnus students. If you are able to attend either of these events, thank you for your support. Remember that Bishop Luers Alumni events are open to alumni as well as friends and family members of Bishop Luers community. Please invite your friends to join us! We have a large group of people that attend these events because they want to support Catholic education and Bishop Luers High School.

Following the Homecoming Mass, last October 2010, we presented the first annual Bishop Luers’ Distinguished Knight Awards. We were proud to honor Mike Egts, class of 1971, as our Outstanding Alumnus, and Leo Stronczek as our Honorary Alumnus. This year’s Homecoming on September 23, 2011 we honored two new Distinguished Knights. Mark Andorfer, class of 1981, was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus award and Mike Millikan was honored as our Honorary Alumnus. Please consider making a nomination for the Distinguished Knight recipients for 2012. The nomination form is linked to this site.

One of the best parts of working at Bishop Luers is meeting alumni and friends of Luers.
At Winter Homecoming In January 2011, we had the privilege of meeting past Girls and Boys Basketball coaches while we honored them at half-time of the boys varsity basketball game. On August 26, 2011 we celebrated the 50th anniversary of Bishop Luers First City Football Championship from 1961. We hosted a recognition ceremony during the football game and a reception for the team members and families following the game. On January 13, 2012 at our Winter Homecoming, we will once again welcome back to Bishop Luers members from our earlier classes as we recognize the first four years of boys basketball. At this event, we will introduce the John Gaughan Scholarship.

Every spring on Mothers Day weekend, we host Bishop Luers annual Alumni and Friends 5K Run/Walk at beautiful Foster Park. This past spring we included booth sponsors that were at the event sharing health and wellness information with our runners. Please plan on joining us, on May 12, 2012, for the next “Run with the Knights” 5K Run/Walk.

Each August, we say goodbye to our most recent graduates as we gather to play corn hole and eat pizza at the “Knight of Farewell and Fun” held in the courtyard of BLHS.

Thank you to our alumni board members, our sponsors and many volunteers who make the events happen.

In addition to our special events, the Annual Fund is a large part of our Development Office responsibility. We are excited and humbled to have met and exceeded our goal, as we finalized last year’s campaign. Congratulations to the class of 1976 for being the top class in 2010-2011 annual fund giving. We are overwhelmed with gratitude to our alumni for the support you have given to Bishop Luers. In December, we kick off our 2012 campaign.

Alumni from BLHS continue to have a strong history of supporting Catholic education. You make it possible for us to serve so many families that desire a Catholic education based on faith, integrity, respect and responsibility. Thank you so much for your support either through participation or sponsorship.

If you are interested in getting more involved with Bishop Luers High School, please contact Kathy Skelly, Sarah Shank or Melissa Hire at 456-1261.
